The hand block printing technique is one of the most beautiful and labor-intensive of all textile production methods. The handblock process begins with the cloth (made from cotton or silk) being dyed in the desired colors, then it is taken to a handblock printer. A block of wood is covered in a thin layer of paint and then the block is pressed on the fabric, leaving a design in its wake.

The saree comes with an attached blouse piece.
